This tamper uses a tough black ABS handle with an angular, faceted top instead of timber or metal. That keeps the weight down to about 270 g and the price low, while the 304 stainless base still gives a solid, flat press.

Practical details

The handle unscrews from the base for cleaning. The 43 mm wide top gives a broad pressing surface, and the overall height is 91 mm. ABS will not swell or crack if it gets wet. If you have been using the thin plastic tamper that came with your machine, the steel base on this one will feel noticeably more stable in the basket.
