Stepped Group Gasket for Saeco, Gaggia and La Pavoni
This is the tall, stepped seal used in the brew head of several older Saeco-built machines, such as the Via Venezia, Aroma and Classico. It measures 66 mm across, 36 mm through the centre and 16 mm high, so it is very different from a flat E61 ring. When it hardens, water and coffee start escaping around the portafilter handle.
What this seal does
The stepped profile locates in the group and gives the basket rim a firm surface to press against, holding full brew pressure. Heat makes the rubber brittle over time, which is why old seals often crumble on removal. Swapping it every 6 to 12 months keeps extraction pressure steady and crema consistent.
