Motta 57 mm Tamper – Black Wood Handle, Flat Base

Motta tamper sized at 57 mm

Not every machine uses a full 58 mm basket. This Motta tamper is cut at 57 mm, a size that suits a number of Italian machines and older baskets with a slightly narrower opening.

Black wood and satin steel

The black-stained wooden handle has a round knob and a slim waist, set into a satin stainless steel base with a flat face. The base is engraved with the Motta name, ‘Made in Italy’ and the 57 mm size. It is around 92 mm tall and weighs about 360 g. Using a tamper that closely matches the basket matters: too small and coffee is left untamped around the edge, which encourages channelling. Machines from several older Italian brands use 57 mm baskets, so it is worth measuring.
