Nical 450 anti-scale filter for the water tank

The Nical 450 is a compact blue cartridge, ø40.5 × 80 mm, that pushes onto the intake hose inside your espresso machine’s water tank. It is made in Italy and moulded with the maker’s mark on the top.

Capacity

It contains weak cation-exchange resin aimed at preventing scale rather than fully softening the water. Rated output is about 75 L at 18 °fH, 50 L at 27 °fH and 30 L at 45 °fH, several times more than the small white softener cartridges.

Which machines

Suits tank-fed machines with a loose intake hose, for example many Expobar, Isomac, Rocket, Rancilio and Gaggia tank models. Larger tanks may take the taller Nical 900 filter. Jura, Saeco and Philips owners should look at Intenza-style cartridges instead.
