Palm tampers work differently from a handled tamper: you push down with your palm until the collar meets the rim of the 58 mm basket, and the base stops at the depth you have chosen. This black model has a plain, polished flat face that leaves a smooth, level puck.

Set the depth once

Unscrew the knurled black top ring to lower the base for a bigger dose, or wind it in for a smaller one. After that, the collar does the measuring and you simply press until it lands. It takes the guesswork out of tamp pressure and helps the shot run evenly.
