Scale is the most common reason automatic machines need a service. An Intenza+ cartridge sits in the water tank and softens the water before it reaches the heater. Softer water also means cleaner flavour and fewer descaling cycles over a year.

Carbon and resin, adjustable

It combines an ion-exchange resin with activated carbon. Turn the ring to A for soft water, B for medium (the factory setting) or C for hard, then replace the cartridge about every two to three months.
