Stepped or stepless: choosing your adjustment

The Philos offers both clicked steps and fully stepless adjustment, and each suits a different user. Steps make it easy to record a setting and return to it, which helps if you swap between espresso and filter often. Stepless gives finer control when one espresso needs only a very small change. Whichever you choose, weigh beans in and grounds out to confirm retention stays low, and use the dose finisher at the end of each dose. Grinding into the canister, which fits 58 mm portafilters, keeps the transfer tidy. If you mostly brew filter, consider which of the interchangeable burr sets suits your brewing.
