Which VBM is on your bench?
Domobar and Junior at home
The Domobar and Junior are the VBM models we see most often from home baristas. They are compact, built with a lot of stainless steel and designed to make proper café-style espresso and milk in a kitchen. Because they are domestic machines, they are repaired at our workshop in Caulfield South.
Commercial VBM in a café or office
VBM also makes larger group machines used in cafés and workplaces. These are heavy and plumbed in, so a technician comes to you, and the repair is done where the machine is installed.
Signs your VBM needs attention
- Puddles under the drip tray usually point to a cracked hose, a loose fitting or a perished seal inside the case.
- Thin, sour shots often follow a worn group gasket, a blocked shower screen or a pump that has lost pressure.
- A steam tap that will not close fully means its internal seals are worn or coated with scale.
- Long warm-up times are commonly caused by scale on the heating element or a tired thermostat or pressure switch.
- A machine that trips the power needs an electrical check before it is used again.
Getting a home VBM to us
Ring us before you come, so we know the machine is on its way. Bring the power cord, water tank, drip tray and any milk parts, and empty the bean hopper if your setup includes one. Our workshop is at Rear 1/331 North Road, Caulfield South, reached through the laneway off Bambra Road, and it is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm.
We test the machine, find the cause and send you a quote. Once you approve it, the work is done with genuine parts and the machine is tested with real shots before we call you to collect. Most home repairs take 3 to 5 days.
When the VBM is commercial
For a café or workplace machine, we confirm the booking within one business day and a technician visits within 4–24 hours if you are within 30 km of Caulfield South, or 24–48 hours further out. The same quote-first approach applies on site.
Keeping a VBM in good order
Panica has worked on espresso machines in Melbourne since 2017, and the VBMs that last longest are the ones whose owners keep up a few simple habits.
Backflush the group regularly if your model allows it, wipe and purge the steam wand after every jug, and use filtered or softened water to slow scale. A yearly service that replaces the group gasket before it fails saves a lot of mess later. If the machine sits unused for a while, empty the tank and run fresh water through before the next coffee.
