Panica Coffee

Astoria Coffee Machine Repairs

Astoria has built espresso machines in Italy since 1969, and plenty of Melbourne cafés and offices still pour from an AB200, Calypso, Forma or Storm every morning. When yours leaks, runs cold or stops dispensing, a Panica technician comes to your premises, tracks down the fault and repairs the machine where it stands.

  • Fixed where it stands: our technician brings the tools to your café or office; the Astoria stays on its bench.
  • Price agreed first: you approve the quote, we fit genuine Astoria parts, and the finished job carries our warranty.
  • Arrival window: 4 to 24 hours inside 30 km of Caulfield South, 24 to 48 hours beyond that.

Repair or buy new? On an Astoria, murky water at the drain, a tired steam arm or a sluggish volumetric shot are normally repairs worth paying for. If an older unit has a badly scaled boiler or a dead control board, or the business has simply outgrown its group count, weigh the quote against the new Astoria machines listed further down this page.

Astoria behind the counter

Astoria comes out of the Italian espresso tradition and has been making machines since 1969. In Melbourne we mostly meet the volumetric models: the AB200 in one, two and three group sizes, the high-cup Calypso, the compact Forma and Greta, the Core 200 and Core 600 with their shot timers, and the multi-boiler Storm and Storm Tempesta. They are built heavy and simple to work on, which is good news when something goes wrong, because most faults can be put right on site with the machine still plumbed in.

Faults we trace on Astoria machines

Murky water under the tray

Cloudy, coffee-coloured water pooling under an Astoria usually points to a drain hose packed with grounds. We clear or replace the hose and check the drain box. Clean water dripping from inside the cabinet is a different story and normally means a fitting or internal pipe has let go.

Shots that swing between hot and lukewarm

When extraction temperature wanders, the cause is often a heating element losing output or a thermostat reading wrongly. We measure both and replace whichever has drifted, then check the group runs steadily across a run of shots.

A steam arm with no push

Weak steam makes milk hard to texture. A nozzle crusted with dried milk is the easy cause; boiler pressure set too low, or a pressurestat starting to fail, are the harder ones we look for next.

Coffee that dribbles or will not come through

A dose that is too heavy or a grind that is too fine can choke an Astoria group. If correcting both does not restore flow, we test the flowmeter, solenoid valve and pump, since a volumetric machine relies on all three to deliver the programmed volume.

What to expect on the day

Call 1300 529 505 or send a booking request and we confirm it within one business day. Tell us the model and what the machine is doing, and send a photo of the data plate if you can, so the technician arrives with the right seals and parts where possible. On site we diagnose first and give you a quote before anything is opened up further. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you how long it will take and come back to fit it. Genuine parts go in, the machine is tested under load, and the repair is covered by our warranty.

Small habits that keep an Astoria running

  • Purge and wipe the steam arm after every jug so milk never dries inside the tip.
  • Backflush each group with a blind basket at close and scrub the shower screen weekly.
  • Run hot water through the drain box at the end of the day to stop grounds settling in the hose.
  • Replace the water filter on schedule; Melbourne water is soft, but scale still builds inside a boiler that runs all day.

Astoria questions

Do you work on older Astoria machines that are no longer sold?

Yes. Many older Astoria models share boilers, valves and group parts with current ones, and anything we do not have on hand we try to source before quoting.

Can the volumetric doses be reset after a repair?

We set the shot volumes back to how you want them before we leave, so baristas are not left guessing.
