ECM S-Manuale 64: simple, solid and precise
Many home baristas weigh their doses anyway, so a timer is not essential. The S-Manuale keeps things simple: press, grind, release.
Weighing doses with a manual grinder
The S-Manuale 64 suits home baristas who already keep scales beside the machine. Press the portafilter into the holder, grind until the basket looks about right, then check the weight and top up or remove a little. After a week or so most people learn how long to hold for their usual dose. Because the grind adjustment is stepless, change it in small amounts when a new bag of beans runs fast or slow, and pull a shot after each move. Adjust the holder to your portafilter so it sits steady. Brush out the chute often, and expect the burrs to need replacing eventually.
Quality where it counts
The 64 mm burrs and stepless adjustment are shared with the S-Automatik, so grind quality is the same.
